Ashtanga Yoga

What Is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga Yoga is a structured, dynamic, and physically demanding style of yoga created by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
It follows a set sequence of poses practiced in the same order every time.

Ashtanga focuses on:

  • Strength

  • Flexibility

  • Stamina

  • Breath and movement synchronization (called Vinyasa)

It is one of the most disciplined forms of yoga.

Key Features of Ashtanga Yoga

1. Fixed Series of Poses

  • Ashtanga has six series:

    1. Primary Series – Detox & alignment

    2. Intermediate Series – Nervous system purification

  • Drishti (gaze focus)

This creates a moving meditation.
